Students from over 130 Akal Academies across five states (Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh) compete each year in both girl’s and boy’s categories. The teams compete in two stages at the regional and zonal levels, and the winners advance to the third and final leg of the tournament held at Akal Academy Baru Sahib.
In this year’s tournament, for the very first time, Gatka (the traditional Sikh martial art) was introduced in the competition. Along with Gatka, students competed in 3 other sports -Basketball, Football and Hockey.
Gatka, saw participation from 7 teams — Dhugga Kalan (PB), Kamalpur (PB), NawanQuilla (PB), Bhunsla (HR), Dumdama Sahib (PB), and Baru Sahib (HP).
Basketball welcomed 6 academies — Akal Academy Muktsar Sahib (PB), Bhai Desa (PB), Chunni Kalan (PB), Gomti (UP), Kauriwara (PB) and Baru Sahib (HP).
Football brought together 7 teams — Akal Academy Manawan (PB), Jaga Ram Tirath (PB), Tibber (PB), FatehgarhChanna (PB), Padampur (RJ), Gomti (UP) and Baru Sahib (HP).
Hockey featured 7 teams — Manawan (PB), Kauriwara (PB), ChakMander (PB), Kamalpur (PB), FatehgarhChanna (PB), Dadehar Sahib (PB) and Baru Sahib (HP).
The winning and participating teams were felicitated by Babaji Dr. Davinder Singh Ji, President of The Kalgidhar Society and Dr. Neelam Kaur, Advisor – Health & Education, The Kalgidhar Society.
The celebration began with the Shabad “Dum Na BirthaJaye”, filling the atmosphere with gratitude and grace.Students presented a meaningful play about a monk and four birds - a crow, swan, parrot and peacock, each wishing to be someone else.
Their journey revealed a beautiful message: true happiness comes from embracing who we are, without comparison, for each of us is uniquely created by the Divine.
The celebration also featured an engaging Musical Quiz on classical string instruments, followed by a graceful Kathak dance performance and an adorable puppet show, where students narrated their story through handcrafted puppets, adding colour and rhythm to the day.
This World Kindness Day, let’s sow seeds of compassion, the essence of true education.

> Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, the 9th Guru Nanak (9th Sikh Guru Sahib), is revered as “Hind Di Chadar”—the Shield of India. Guru Sahib’s supreme sacrifice in 1675 remains one of humanity’s greatest acts of courage, compassion and commitment to protecting the rights of others.
>
> In 1675, during the oppressive rule of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the Kashmiri Pandit community faced severe religious persecution and the threat of forced conversion. With no refuge left, they turned to Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji at Anandpur Sahib, seeking protection and guidance.
>
> Recognising the severity of their suffering, Guru Sahib made a historic decision that changed the course of India’s spiritual and human rights landscape. Guru Sahib declared that if the Mughal emperor could convert him, the spiritual guide of millions, then the entire community would accept conversion. If not, the tyranny must stop.
>
> This powerful stand was not for the Kashmiri Pandits alone; it was for the universal right of every human being to practise their faith freely.
>
> Guru Sahib, along with three devoted Sikhs - Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji and Bhai Dayala Ji, left from Anandpur Sahib and offered themselves for arrest at Agra, after which they were taken to Delhi. The beloved Sikhs faced severe torture but remained unshaken in their faith.
>
> In November 1675, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji attained martyrdom in Chandni Chowk, giving His life so that others could follow their faith with freedom and dignity.
>
> After the martyrdom, the Sacred Sheesh (holy head) of Guru Sahib was carried from Delhi to Anandpur Sahib by Bhai Jaita Ji (later Bhai Jiwan Singh Ji). Wherever Bhai Sahab Ji stopped on the way, Gurdwaras, known as Gurdwara Sri Seesh Ganj Sahib , stand today in remembrance. The Sacred Sheesh was cremated at Anandpur Sahib in the presence of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
>
> The Sacred body of Guru Sahib was cremated by Bhai Lakhi Shah Banjara Ji, who set fire to his own house to perform the cremation safely.
>
> Witnessing this profound injustice, Guru Gobind Singh Ji urged the Sikhs to prepare themselves, a message that later led to the creation of the Khalsa Panth, a disciplined spiritual force to stand against oppression and protect righteousness.
>
> This unparalleled sacrifice of Guru Sahib marked a turning point in Indian history:
>
> * It defended freedom of belief.
> * It challenged religious persecution.
> * It established the Sikh community as protectors of human rights.
>
> Three and a half centuries later, Guru Sahib’s message remains eternal - Stand for truth. Protect the oppressed. Uphold human dignity at all costs.

109th Free Medical & Surgical Camp
With the blessings of His Holiness Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, Akal Charitable Hospital, in collaboration with Akal College of Nursing & School of Public Health, will host the 109th Free Multi-Speciality Medical & Surgical Camp on 5–6 October 2025 at Baru Sahib (H.P.).
The journey of seva began in 1987, when Dr. Davinder Singh Ji (MBBS, MD) and Dr. Neelam Kaur (MBBS, MS), guided and inspired by Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, left Delhi for the remote hills of Himachal Pradesh. What they found was a population cut off from basic healthcare, families walking over 120 km from villages like Nohradhar, Shilla and Chopal to reach Baru Sahib in hope of relief.
With little more than faith and determination, they turned the basement of the Langar Hall into makeshift operation theatres and OPDs. Eye surgeries, general procedures, obstetric and gynaecological care, and even trauma cases were managed with scarce resources. Anti-tuberculosis medicines were carried in from Delhi before DOTS therapy ever existed. Anti-snake venom was stocked to save lives from deadly bites that plagued the hills.
The first Free Surgical Camp in the early 1980s , led by Dr. Dhanwant Singh, performed 100 eye surgeries in one go —a milestone that became the seed for a tradition. Since then, Baru Sahib has organised dozens of such camps every year, crossing 2,000 surgeries and 50,000 patients served with free consultations, medicines, diagnostics and life-saving interventions.
This movement of compassion grew with the selfless contribution of doctors who travelled from near and far. Dr. Gautam, Dr. G.P. Singh from Jalandhar, medical teams from Patiala, Bombay, the US and Canada have joined hands in seva. Today, each camp undertakes 50–60 surgeries, with 3–4 major camps held every year. The call remains open- we need more doctors and volunteers to carry this mission forward.
In 2003, under Babaji’s guidance, a new frontier of seva began: de-addiction care. Dr. Rajinder Singh spearheaded the initiative, and since then, more than 20,000 OPD patients and 8,000 IPD patients have been treated. What began with just 30 beds in Cheema, sustained entirely by missionary spirit , managed to serve thousands battling addiction. Later, a 50-bed centre at Baru Sahib was added, expanding this healing mission and giving countless lives a chance at recovery.
At the heart of it all is the same spirit: missionary zeal, service beyond borders, and the unshakable belief that healing humanity is an act of divine submission.
This year, as Punjab heals from the devastation of floods, the mission carries an even greater urgency. Baru Sahib’s camps continue to restore not only health, but also dignity and hope, free from the barriers of caste, creed, or geography.
At Akal Academy &Eternal University, Baru Sahib, we are shaping tomorrow’s leaders with values, discipline and purpose.
From NCC training to holistic education, it’s more than learning; it’s transformation.
A brief history of Padma Bhushan Dr. Khem Singh Ji Gill, a trailblazer in agriculture, education, and service. Remembering Dr. Khem Singh Ji (01-09-1930 to 17-09-2019) on his 6th Barsi, with Dr. Davinder Singh Ji sharing his life story and significant contributions to the Green Revolution.

On this solemn occasion, we pay tribute to Dr. Khem Singh Gill Ji , a visionary whose contributions transformed agriculture, education and rural upliftment. A live telecast of the BarsiSamagam is being streamed from GurudwaraBaru Sahib.
As one of the pioneering figures of India’s Green Revolution, Dr. Gill’s
contributions to crop science and food security reshaped the nation’s agricultural landscape. A distinguished academic, his educational journey began with a B.Sc. from Khalsa College, Amritsar (1949) and M.Sc. from Panjab University (1951). In pursuit of advanced research, he earned a Ph.D. in Plant Genetics from the University of California (1966) and later served as the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, inspiring generations of scholars and farmers alike.
Guided by the teachings of Sant Teja Singh Ji and working closely with Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, Dr. Gill embraced spirituality as a foundation for service. Their shared vision materialized in the establishment of 129+ Akal Academies across rural India, bringing holistic education to underserved communities.
His enduring legacy is preserved at Baru Sahib, where the Dr. Khem Singh Gill Akal College of Agriculture (DKSGACA) at Eternal University carries forward his mission through research and learning that blend science with ethics.
His legacy continues to inspire future generations in their pursuit of excellence and community development.

Recently, we celebrated Independence Day at Akal Academy Baru Sahib, where Dr. Davinder Singh Ji (The President of Kalgidhar Trust) shared his views on income inequality and the growing gap between the haves and have-nots. His message reminded us that true freedom lies not just in independence, but in ensuring equality, dignity, and opportunity for all.
After a joyful holiday, our corridors are alive again with laughter, chatter, and bright faces. A fresh term begins today, filled with new lessons, friendships, and discoveries waiting to unfold.
Back to School, Back to Smiles!

At Akal Academy, 130 schools unite in shaping young leaders who will strengthen our nation with wisdom, integrity and service.
Keeping pace with current trends, Akal Academy Baru Sahib has proudly inaugurated AI Learning Labs that go far beyond the traditional classroom. Dr. Neelam Kaur believes that while technology is essential, the way forward lies in blending it thoughtfully with active pedagogy. The traditional “chalk with heart” approach remains the cornerstone of education. These labs are not just learning spaces; they are catalysts for transformation. The first lab has been established at Akal Academy Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, our mother school, and the second at Akal Academy Gomti, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. As centers of innovation, they are empowering students from all walks of life, especially those from underserved backgrounds, with future-ready skills in artificial intelligence, coding and robotics. Our gratitude goes to Dr. Nidhi Khurana and Mr. Rakesh Khurana from Goglobalways for their invaluable contributions in setting up the labs.

Creativity begins with curiosity!
As part of experiential learning, IB PYP students from Nursery to Grade 5 participated in a vibrant Vegetable & Cotton Painting Competition, where natural materials became powerful tools of artistic expression.
This hands-on art experience encouraged students to transform simple items like v egetables and cotton into vibrant works of art — enhancing their understanding of texture, shape, colour and composition while sparking imaginative thinking.
Students used the following techniques for their artwork:
Vegetable Stamping Art
From okra and potatoes to celery and capsicum, our young artists discovered how the textures and shapes of everyday vegetables could be used to create beautiful stamped designs, floral patterns and imaginative landscapes.
Cotton Swab Painting
Using cotton buds, balls and pads, students explored dotting, blending and layering techniques — transforming soft touches into bold ideas and expressive strokes.

We offer a humble tribute to the life & legacy of Sant Teja Singh Ji
Maharaj.
On 5th July, we celebrate the legacy of Sant Teja Singh Ji Maharaj, marking Sant Ji's
60th Barsi at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib, New Delhi — reflected through the following
milestones of his remarkable journey.
1. The First ambassador of Sikhi to the Western world.
Sant Teja Singh Ji Mastuanewale was one of the shining spiritual luminaries of the 20th
century — a saint, scholar, and the first ambassador of Sikhi to the Western world. A
graduate of Government College Lahore, Punjab University and Harvard University, he stood
as a rare blend of intellectual brilliance and spiritual radiance, a guiding light in an
increasingly materialistic world.
But long before he became a saint, his journey was marked by internal struggles and
transformation.
2. Sant Ji’s First Lesson
As a young man named Niranjan Singh Mehta, he was deeply influenced by Western
thought, non-religious, a rationalist and a sharp critic of traditional practices. Though honest,
kind and socially aware, Sant Ji once considered bowing to Guru Granth Sahib Ji akin to idol
worship.
However, a pivotal moment came while serving as a senior teacher at a leading Sikh
institution. In order to avoid bowing in the Gurdwara, Sant Ji began arriving before others,
until one day, a profound spiritual experience overtook him. Alone in the Darbar Sahib, he
suddenly felt the divine presence of the Guru Sahib. Drawn by an unseen force, he bowed
deeply before Guru Granth Sahib Ji and began uttering the names of the Guru Sahib
involuntarily, with tears in his eyes.
Unable to explain the transformation he had experienced in the Gurdwara Sahib, he sought
spiritual guidance and was eventually directed to Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj, under
whose influence he underwent a complete inner reformation.
His first lesson was to shed all ill-will, including toward Sant Ji’s stepmother, who had
treated him harshly. Despite the mistreatment, he had always responded with deep tolerance.
This immense forbearance, which later became a cornerstone of his character, was something
he attributed to his mother, to whom he would later dedicated his autobiography.
It reflects a timeless truth: Mothers have the power to shape the destiny of their children.
Her quiet lessons in patience and humility laid the foundation for his towering spiritual
presence.
With a clean heart and a renewed soul, he returned to his duties. In 1905, he and his family
formally took Amrit, and his name was changed to Teja Singh. This story is a profound
reminder that even the most intellectual and sceptical minds can be humbled, awakened and
transformed when touched by true spiritual grace.
The Unseen Influence: How Sant Teja Singh Ji Awakened Henry Ford and
Sparked Global Social Change
3. The Meeting - A Ten-Minute Journey That Stirred a Soul
Among the many extraordinary episodes in Sant Ji’s life was his brief but powerful encounter
with Henry Ford around 1913, a meeting that revealed how the quiet force of a saint can
awaken the conscience of even the most powerful.
Sant Teja Singh Ji felt a spiritual urge to meet Ford. Despite Ford’s packed schedule, Sant Ji
was granted a few minutes, not in an office, but during a car ride.
He asked Ford four simple but piercing questions:
1. "How much do you earn a day?"
2. "How much money do you have in the banks?"
3. "How much more do you want?"
4. "Are you at peace?"
Ford answered the first three but fell silent at the fourth. “No,” he admitted, “I am not at
peace.”
“How do I find peace?” he asked.
Sant Ji handed him a mala (prayer beads) and advised him to remember the name of Jesus
and meditate. He reminded Ford that wealth without purpose is a burden and true peace is
found through self-purification and service to the poor. Ford was deeply moved.
🔹 Henry Ford Before 1913
Up to that point, Ford was focused on innovation and industrial growth. Working conditions
were harsh, and there was little focus on human welfare or philanthropy.
🔸 A Turning Point: Transformation After 1913
Whether one calls it coincidence or consequence — after this meeting, Ford’s approach
shifted dramatically, planting a seed that grew into a global movement for social change:
1914: Introduced the revolutionary $5-a-day wage, doubling worker pay.
1914: Launched worker welfare programs including healthcare and education.
1914: Took a stand against child labour.
1915: Established Henry Ford Hospital with his wife.
1915: Funded the Peace Ship initiative to negotiate during WWI.
1926: Introduced the five-day, 40-hour workweek.
1930s: During the Depression, resisted mass layoffs and expanded worker aid.
1936: Founded the Ford Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic entities.
1940s: Though a pacifist, supported WWII production to help sustain employment.
1941: Signed the first union contract and promoted diverse hiring practices.
🔹 Spiritual Reflection
Sant Teja Singh Ji didn’t need long speeches, media campaigns, or positions of power. His
silent sincerity, anchored in deep spiritual strength, awakened the heart of a man whose
choices impacted millions.
He proved that true leadership is not in commanding others — but in elevating them. His
message, that peace lies in remembrance of the Divine and selfless service, continues to
resonate even a century later.

United for a Drug-Free Tomorrow: Awareness Rally & Nukkad Natak at Baru Sahib
On the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, Akal College of Nursing, Eternal University, held an impactful awareness event at Baru Sahib. Led by Founding Vice Chancellor Dr. M.S. Atwal and current Vice Chancellor Dr. Jaswinder Singh, the rally featured active participation from faculty and students of Akal College of Nursing, College of Education, and Akal Academy Baru Sahib.
A standout moment was a student-led Nukkad Natak (street play) delivering a strong message on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of healthy, value-based living.
Across 130 Akal Academies in five North Indian states, a firm commitment to drug-free education is upheld. These schools blend academic excellence with values, discipline, and wellness, benefiting both students and their communities.
This mission is reinforced by Akal De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centres, under The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib. Inspired by Revered Baba Iqbal Singh Ji (1926–2022), the initiative began in 2004 to combat substance abuse and restore dignity to affected lives.
Three centres currently operate in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, offering free and affordable treatment, counselling, and spiritual healing.
Akal Academies and De-Addiction Centres work in synergy to foster education and recovery. Students are not only avoiding harmful habits but also becoming advocates for change, promoting healthier, more compassionate communities.
We remain committed to building a safer, addiction-free society through awareness, education, and care.
On Shaheedi Purab, remembering Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji!
We pay heartfelt tribute to a saint-soldier, fearless commander and the first Sikh ruler of Punjab, who stood firm against tyranny and injustice.

Akal Academy Youth Ambassadors – Our HOPE!
As the UK alumni connect continues under Akal Connect, yet another proud alumnus of Akal Academy Baru Sahib, HP (a legacy envisioned by Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj, Sant Teja Singh ji and actualised by Baba Iqbal Singh Ji) came forward with heartfelt reverence.
Dr. Tarun Singh, a practicing psychiatrist now based in Sussex, UK and currently pursuing his specialization in Adult Psychiatry at Oxford, visited to seek blessings from Dr. Davinder Singh Ji.
A graduate of Akal Academy Baru Sahib, Dr. Tarundeep Singh spent two transformative years at the Academy, years that laid the foundation of his multidisciplinary path. From theatre and debate to languages and sports, and above all, spiritual grounding, Baru Sahib shaped not just his intellect but his purpose.
"I recall this child (Tarundeep Singh) when he was in school with us, he asked deep, thoughtful questions. His mind was always inquiring, especially about the connection between scientific concepts and spirituality. Over the years, he remained in touch with us, and it has been a delight to witness his journey. From medical school to clearing competitive exams in the UK, from his first degree to his second, Gurbani has been his constant anchor. We’ve stayed connected at each stage, and we are truly inspired that he has realised the strength of Gurbani alongside academic excellence." – Dr. Neelam Kaur (Mata Ji)
Today, he serves in UK, blending psychological insight with the empathy rooted in his early education. His exposure at AABS to students from diverse backgrounds, ranging from NRIs to children from rural, underprivileged families, deepened his understanding of human emotion and resilience. He often recalls the humility of the sewadars and the life-changing power of value-based education.
Returning to meet his spiritual teachers was not just a visit; it was a heartfelt homecoming.
To him, Baru Sahib is not just an institution, it is a second home, where he found not only mentors, but spiritual parents, whose blessings continue to illuminate his journey.
A journey of knowledge, gratitude, and seva, still beautifully unfolding.
We warmly welcome all alumni across the globe to stay connected, contribute, and revisit their spiritual home.

Inter-House Math Quiz at Akal Academy Matter
At Akal Academy Baru Sahib, learning goes beyond textbooks—and the recent Inter-House Mathematics Quiz Competition proved just that.
This wasn’t just a test of formulas; it was a vibrant display of logical thinking, teamwork, and resilience. Students from Grades VI to XII came together in an atmosphere buzzing with energy, focus, and the thrill of solving problems under pressure.
These events matter the most to us because they build more than academic knowledge. They foster critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and confidence—skills essential for real-world success.
Through this engaging experience, students discovered that math is more than numbers; it’s a tool for sharpening the mind and building persistence. And when tackled in teams, it becomes a journey of shared growth.

A Teacher Meets Her Mentor!
Yet another heartfelt meeting. During the ongoing UK tour, a devoted teacher met her lifelong mentor, Dr. Neelam Kaur (Advisor, Health & Education, The Kalgidhar Trust), a guiding light for many. Drawn by deep respect and gratitude, she sought blessings, motivation, and direction from Dr. Neelam Kaur, who herself has been a tireless champion of value-based education under the vision of Babaji Dr. Davinder Singh Ji (Mukh Sevadar The Kalgidhar Trust). Hon’ble Babaji Dr. Davinder Singh Ji (Mukh Sevadar of Kalgidhar Trust) currently on a spiritual visit to the UK, visited the historic Gurdwara Sahib Khalsa Jatha British Isles in Shepherd’s Bush, London, the first Gurdwara established in the Western world.
With deep reverence, Babaji shared the inspiring legacy of its founder, Sant Baba Teja Singh Ji Maharaj, a saint far ahead of his time.
Established in the early 1900s, Khalsa Jatha British Isles was envisioned by Sant Teja Singh Ji as a spiritual home for Sikhs in the diaspora. A saint-scholar of rare intellect and deep devotion, he was the first turbaned Sikh to study at Cambridge and later earned a Master’s from Harvard. His life reflected a perfect blend of spiritual insight and academic excellence.
Babaji’s visit served as a reaffirmation of Sant Ji’s timeless vision, that Sikh values of seva, humility, and spiritual living can thrive anywhere in the world.
From the cobbled streets of early 1900s London to today’s global Sikh community, it all began with one soul’s divine resolve.
A legacy remembered. A mission revived. A path continued.

Since 1982, the free medical camps at Akal Charitable Hospital, Baru Sahib have been more than just healthcare initiatives—they have been a lifeline for the underserved, a testament to the power of seva (selfless service) and the spirit of compassion.
What began in the summer of 1982 with a surgical eye camp led by Dr. Dhanwant Singh Ji, under the divine benevolence of Honourable Saint Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, grew into a movement. Regular screenings, medical camps, vaccination campaigns, and eye check-up and refraction services were conducted 3-4 times each year, steadily expanding with time.
Destiny blessed us to be part of this divine service under the patronage of our spiritual mentor, Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, a 'Mahapurakh' with a heart full of compassion from which the welfare of humanity flows. I was fortunate to join this unique platform of giving that Baru Sahib offers, alongside my life partner, Dr. Davinder Singh Ji. I vividly recall the eye surgeries performed by us in a makeshift operation theatre set up in the basement. At that time, there were no roads in the remote Himalayan Region. Villagers in need of surgery or medical attention were carried on the shoulders of volunteers through rugged mountain terrain. What once seemed impossible was made possible through faith and the belief that every life is worth saving—a realization of true commitment that began with taking the Hippocratic Oath as a medical graduate.
Soon, the core team was joined by Dr. Gautam Singh Sikand and later Dr. G.P. Singh, who, along with their team of doctors and paramedical staff from Jalandhar, made these camps a biannual feature every spring and fall. A little while later, medical professionals from Patiala and Delhi began holding two additional camps in summer and winter. Motivated by these pioneering efforts, Mr. Dave Mann from Vancouver brought a team of medics, code-named Operation Rainbow, from Canada. They performed plastic surgeries for the needy patients in this remote part of Himachal Pradesh.
From surgeries like cataract removals, cholecystectomies, hysterectomies, cleft palate repairs, contracture surgeries, and uterine prolapse corrections, to routine check-ups and diagnostics, no one is ever turned away. The healing goes beyond medical care—every patient receives free lodging, food, and follow-up services. Every step, from surgery to recovery, is handled with love and dignity, ensuring that the healing touch of Baru Sahib reaches everyone who comes to us. We are deeply grateful to the Almighty, "Waheguru."
As we prepare for our next free medical and surgical camp—the second such camp this year—we invite all compassionate souls to join us in this sacred endeavour as volunteers, mentors, and professionals.
The upcoming camp will once again bring together the best of humanity—people dedicated to healing, giving, and serving at Baru Sahib.
We at Akal Academy believe that Role-play is an effective tool to build confidence in children; enhance their creativity along with their communication and problem solving skills.Keeping this in view IB-PYP Block organized Inter house English role play competition on October 5,2024 where little ones showcased their talent through different role plays based on moral values
