The State Gatka Championship saw a stellar performance by the students of Akal Academy Baru Sahib, who secured the 1st position in the championship, competing against participants from 9 districts across Himachal Pradesh. The team brought home a total of 18 medals - 15 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze.
Competing across individual and team events in the U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories, the students put up a strong performance throughout the championship.
Among the standout performances, Rajvansh Singh secured 2 Gold Medals in Fari Soti – Individual and Fari Soti – Team Fight in the U-17 category. Ekampreet Singh (U- 14 category) also secured 2 Gold Medals in Single Soti – Individual and Single Soti – Team.
In the U-17 category, Gurjot Singh, Jashanpreet Singh and Ajaypal Singh secured Gold Medals in Fari Soti – Team Fight. Gurjot Singh also secured a Bronze Medal in Individual Demo.
In the U-14 category, Jorawar Singh, Fateh Singh, Veerpal Singh, Harnirmol Singh, Gurvansh Singh, Rajvir Singh and Jasmeh Singh each secured a Gold Medal, while Armaan Singh secured a Bronze Medal.
In the U-19 category, Agamjit Singh secured a Gold Medal in Fari Soti – Individual and a Silver Medal in Individual Demo.
Adding to the Academy's laurels, both teams have been selected for the National Gatka Championship. Their achievement reflects the dedication and commitment of the players, along with the consistent guidance and efforts of their coach.
The collective performance of these young athletes brings recognition to Akal Academy Baru Sahib and Himachal Pradesh, while contributing to the growing participation and recognition of Gatka among young athletes in the region.

NCC Girls Cadets: Learning to Lead

The NCC Girls Unit of Akal Academy Baru Sahib (Junior Wing), under the 1 HP Girls Battalion, Solan, comprises 24 cadets from Grades 9 and 10. The unit follows a structured two-year NCC training programme, allowing students to develop discipline, confidence, leadership and a deeper understanding of the Armed Forces.
As part of their training, the cadets also attend the Annual Training Camp, where around 1,200 cadets from nearly 50 schools and colleges come together for intensive training and learning. Under the supervision of Hon’ble Col. Vivek Batara, Commanding Officer, 1 HP Girls Battalion, the cadets are trained in marching techniques, squad formations, parade commands, weapon training, rifle shooting, map reading, sports and physical training.
Beyond physical and military training, NCC also places emphasis on developing the mindset of a cadet, one that encourages students to:

10m Air Rifle Shooting Workshop

From learning the basics to taking aim at the target, students participated in an Air Rifle Shooting Workshop as part of the school's sports and experiential learning programme. The workshop was held for Under-17 and Under-15 age categories, introducing the fundamentals of 10m Air Rifle shooting, a recognised international shooting discipline.
Trainers guided the students through the technical aspects of the sport, including standing posture, safe and correct rifle handling, aiming and sight alignment, stability, controlled breathing, and maintaining focus while shooting. Implementing the techniques, students practiced multiple shooting rounds and analysed the results.
The workshop also introduced students to potential career options in shooting across different categories, covering both rifle and pistol disciplines at 10m, 25m, 50m, and 300m ranges. The professional career pathway starts at the district level, leading to state-level competitions and progressing to national and, ultimately, international levels.
The experiential learning workshop helped students gain a deeper understanding of this Olympic sport.

A Holistic Development and Life Skills Session was conducted for the students, introducing them to the significance of developing the five dimensions of a complete individual through interactive activities, self-assessment exercises, gamification, discussions, and reflective learning. They were introduced to the concept of:
1. Emotional Quotient (EQ) – the Heart, helping to understand and manage emotions, develop empathy and build meaningful relationships.
2. Intelligence Quotient (IQ) – the Mind, enabling us to think, learn, analyse, solve problems, and make informed decisions.
3. Spiritual Quotient (SQ) – the Soul, encouraging self-awareness, purpose, values, and a deeper understanding of oneself and one's connection with others.
4. Physical Quotient (PQ) – the Body, highlighting the importance of physical fitness, health, discipline, and overall well-being.
5. Positive Energy Quotient (PEQ) – Energy and Attitude, focusing on maintaining a positive outlook, resilience, motivation, and the ability to channel one's energy constructively.
Beyond these five dimensions, students were introduced to Goal Setting, exploring short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals. Using examples such as academic examinations, they learned how to set purposeful goals not only for their studies but also for other areas of life.
The session also introduced students to Ikigai, the intersection of what they love, what they are good at, what the world needs, and what they can contribute through their work—helping them reflect on purpose and direction beyond academic achievement.
The session encouraged students to look beyond academics and understand how their thoughts, emotions, habits, choices, and actions shape personal growth, build a positive outlook, and help them become competent, compassionate, and confident individuals.

The pioneer educational institution of the entire Kalgidhar Education Ecosystem is Akal Academy Baru Sahib, an International School established in 1986 by Revered Sant Baba Iqbal Singh Ji with just five students. Today, it provides value-based education to students from Nursery to Grade 12.
The school offers a unique combination of three curricula - International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
